Behavior
Policies
In order for
Hunting Hills to remain as a safe place for children and families,
we have devised a behavior and safety plan for 2008. Please read the
guidelines below for sending and bringing your children to the pool.
Appropriate Age for
Unattended Children
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a member that is 13
or over. If a child is left unattended, he or she will remain in
the office until an adult comes to pick the child up from the pool.
Non-swimmers under the
age of 12
If a child is a non-swimmer and does not possess the skills to stay
buoyant in the water, the adult accompanying the child must remain
with the child in the pool at all times. This means that a small
child in floaties must be accompanied by an adult within reaching
distance.
Behavior Intervention
Plan
Step 1: Whistle blowing.
If a child breaks a simple rule inside the pool, the whistle will be
blown loudly and clearly.
Step 2: Benching/Phone Call.
If a child has either
a) seriously put the safety of himself, herself, or the other
patrons at risk or
b) repeatedly broken minor rules
The child can be benched. This time-out will last no longer than 15
minutes.
Each time a child is benched, a phone call will be made to the
parent if the parent is not at the pool.
Benchings will be recorded in a file for future reference.
Step 3: Day Suspension.
If a child is benched more than two times throughout the summer, the
child may be sent home for the day. The child will not be permitted
back to the pool until a meeting is arranged with the parent and
manager.
Step 4: Week Suspension.
Following this one-day suspension, if any behavior problems arise,
further suspensions may be given and can last up to one week. The
child will not be permitted back to the pool until a meeting is
arranged with the parent and manager.
Due to the nature of some incidents, it is entirely possible that
severe actions may require automatic suspension. This is to the
discretion of the manager and pool board.
Guidelines for Parents of
Independent Children
If you are the parent of a child or teen who spends most of the
summer at the pool without an adult, please periodically "check in"
with the managers in order to ensure that everything is running
smoothly. While phone calls will be made for major infractions,
communication between parents and staff is essential in order to
encourage positive behavior.
